Introducing Our Peer Support Team

This September, we were thrilled to launch our Peer Support team, a new initiative designed to foster a supportive and connected school community. This initiative was made possible by the Tema Foundation, founded by Grammar alumnus Howard Conter ‘77 in memory of his sister, Tema Conter ‘80.

The Peer Support team comprises 14 senior high students nominated by their peers for their trustworthiness, empathy, and responsibility. The team underwent intensive training in May 2024 with Tema Education Coordinator, Colleen Kamps. Over three days, they developed essential skills, including strategies to support individuals in distress, role-playing scenarios, and creating personal self-care plans. The training also emphasized connecting students to valuable resources both within and beyond our school community.

Already, the Peer Support team has been making an impact by proactively building connections with Middle School students. These relationships help combat feelings of isolation and create natural opportunities for students to seek support from their peers. We look forward to seeing the continued positive influence of this program as we strive to foster a caring, connected, and supportive school community.
